FOWD – How?

What device, what technology and even what service can’t be done without asking How. How do we communicate, how we produce the service an primary how we make these things happen will be topic of this article.

Don’t forget Flash

If you don’t mind I’ll start with Flash – 1.2 or 3.0 or even MX or just simple Flash. Back other days we have been playing with the time line and simple animations. Now days we puling 60 videos in different movie clips synchronize with external databases and delivery rich content to the most ambitious audience. Flash become solution for rich content media presentation. NOT ANY MORE? – after when was first time mentioned HTML5 and CSS3 Flash become a secound solution. The HTML community (obviously much bigger than flash community) get exiting. We can hear about animation control shadow or even pulling video in to a HTML page.  Flash does scripted animation back to 1998 (or maybe earlier).

Real problem was really in technology itself but in support. Flash cross one decade and survive moreover stabilized and expand to Fx – Flex solution which is broadly use in RIA applications. Also strong interconnection between application such as Fl, Fx and Ae bringing rich media content to the real world.

So “It’s really HTML5 – Flash killer?” All of this depends on solution and as I already mention on full support in browser. Now days HTML5 is not fully support and most of feature are still in the implementation process. As I concern we can’t use it yet. They will be some pioneers who definitely push the border but real implementation has to wait for W3C and their blessing.

HTM L5

As I address it’s all about the support. Previous graph presents how long take us to get here with HTML5. All 10 years crossing XML and XHTML to move HTML5. As Molly and … said at the conference – its up to us to push the vendors to implement the support for HTML instances in their products / browsers. I’m not going to dive in to a programming level or explaining what is and what is not supported. At first I’m not developer and at secound my focus are in HTML 5 is more less predictable – ant it’s typography.

CSS3

First mention about CSS3 came from Molly who spoke about the real problem in the past and implementation feature which we might see quite soon. More importantly she talk about the community and collaboration open standards and supporting W3C. This on the end was really well received. Molly have enormous gift to get people engaged.

She spoke about radius and implementation using different techniques and browser support. Web-kit vs. browser support was main question which represent real problem in implementation. Another topic was progressive enhancement and what we can do in the most modern CSS browsers. This obviously degrade the design itself. Truly progressive CSS is guiding a strategy what and how we can use it in our best benefit.

Pushing border with @font-face: rgba: border-radius: multiple-backgrounds: text shadow and text column all of these methods make our live much easier and more fluid. But this is not the end there should be much more and it’s up to us to push back and require full CSS specification not just on W3c but also full support in all available browsers.

jQuery for designers

As a non developer person jQuery for designers was really well prepared. All information presented in this session was well formed – in the way that even designers and front end developers clearly understand what we should be using and why. More over his presentation was concentrate to methodology and techniques where and how to use the jQuery for real benefit of the website.
