ISOTYPE on St. Bride

In rainy afternoon I traveled  across half London to see what is happening at St. Bride library. St. Bride foundation prepare a presentation of ISOTYPE. Whole evening was distributed to three section dedicated to isotype.

In first part of the presentation Mathew Eve describe isotype grow between years 1942 and 1945 when Mr. Otto Neurath first time present “visual autobiography”. His work was remarkable and affect many of designer after secound world war. Even so many of examples of his work we see even on daily bases in London and London Underground.

with wonderful English speech covered period of time between 1940 to 1960. She mainly focused on children  education  and visual simplicity to explain methods how the things work and “what is the the box”. Extraordinary well prepared presentation with a lot of practical examples where you can see how many mistakes we make at these days when we tried to bring some messages across.

And it’s that easy a bit of history, a bit of education and you might discover how many good things are out there for simple focused visual communication.

in his part present a period of time when Marie Neurath wife of Otto Neurath help with ISOTYPE method Nigerian government present information supporting vote. More over the information was part of the process of education in Nigeria in middle of 60’s.

All these presentations together were in one breath well prepared and well presented. It’s shame that there is no many of these presentations out there for wide audience. It would be great to see people understand and designers produce graphics inspired by Otto Neurath or  Ladislav Sutnar.

Final part of this evening was small cheer where everyone contribute and share their experience with others. It was nice evening with all this wonderful people. Hope we’ll have a opportunity to see each other again.
